Since 2016, the Palma Aquarium Foundation has been creating and participating in a number of social and environmental projects aimed at protecting and raising awareness of the marine environment. Now, and starting October 2024, we are delighted to announce the launch of “Ecos del Mediterráneo” (Echoes of the Mediterranean) – a new series of free talks, organised Palma Aquarium and its Foundation.
This exciting initiative aims to create a space for outreach at the Palma Aquarium facilities and to discuss topics related to the marine environment, giving a voice to projects committed to conservation and environmental awareness.
Our goal is to drive knowledge about the challenges facing our oceans, seeking to raise awareness and engage the local community, professionals and institutions in the drive to conserve our seas.
Lecture one: Sport and the sea as a way of life
The first session in the “Echoes of the Mediterranean” series will take place on Tuesday, 22nd October, at 7 p.m. in Palma Aquarium’s Océano Room. The discussion will centre on Sport and the sea as a way of life. The aim is to inform the public of the goals of the Mar de Fondo project – namely to explore ways in which sport can act as a tool for connecting with the marine environment and promote its conservation, creating a community with a strong environmental commitment.
The speakers will be Paul Gehrig and Toni Mora, co-founders of Mar de Fondo as well as athletes with a passion for the sea. Both speakers will share their experiences during a debate moderated by Palma Aquarium’s director, Debora Morrison and technician, Marco Magazzu.

Raising awareness
The other lectures in the series will also address topics related to marine conservation, such as the protection of emblematic species, the challenges of marine pollution, and sustainable solutions for the conservation of our oceans.
