Palma Aquarium presents a special monthly programme designed to offer all visitors an insight into our seas and oceans, helping them to realise the importance of their conservation.

The sea is more than just part of the scenery of the Balearic Islands. It is part of our history, our essence, our identity. Since time immemorial, the sea has been a source of life, inspiration, and connection for those of us who live here. Yet it is also a fragile ecosystem that requires our commitment and action to ensure its conservation for the generations to come.

For this reason, we are delighted to present our campaign “Som de la Mar” (“We are sea people”). An initiative that not only aims to reinforce our brand values but also to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and conserving our marine environment.

Our values: education, protection and conservation

The “Som de la Mar” movement is built on three fundamental pillars that define our mission: education, protection, and conservation. Through this initiative, we are seeking to reposition our commitment to educational outreach, the protection of the seas and oceans, and the marine conservation projects we undertake. We want the local community to reconnect with the sea in a new way, to understand that every action counts, and that we all have a crucial role to play in caring for our environment.

Palma Aquarium and its Foundation have been working for years towards a clear goal: to protect marine biodiversity and raise awareness of the vital role our seas and oceans play. Now, thanks to “Som de la Mar,” our message is stronger than ever, inspiring and promoting the conviction among the local community that the sea is part of our identity and a responsibility we all share.

“Som de la Mar” – Awareness and action

Our objective is clear: to raise awareness within the local community that “We are sea people”. With this campaign, we aim to share our message through a variety of actions and channels, reinforcing our commitment to marine conservation and environmental education. Actions that include the following:

  • Regular events and interactive experiences held at Palma Aquarium to boost the sense of connection with the sea among visitors and local residents alike.
  • Conservation and outreach projects that will spotlight the work of the Palma Aquarium Foundation.
  • Talks and educational activities for schools and families, bringing knowledge of the seas and oceans closer to the community.
  • Volunteering actions and beach clean-ups, inviting the community to play an active role in protecting the marine environment.

A different special programme each month

Each month since March, Som de la Mar has been offering a series of themed activities, designed to allow visitors and residents to discover, appreciate and protect the sea through interactive experiences, workshops and games.

  • March – The Balearic Sea: Exploring our waters, their biodiversity and the importance of caring for them.
  • April – Sharks: Debunking myths and highlighting the essential role they play in the ecosystem.
  • May – Sea turtles: Learning about their lives, the threats they face, and how we can help them.
  • June – The oceans: A tribute to the immensity of the marine world and the importance of protecting it on a global scale.

Each weekend and on public holidays, we run workshops, storytelling sessions, games, and interactive experiences tailored to each month’s theme. Check out the special programme for each month here.
