Octopus vulgaris

Octopus

Did you know ?

They do not have one heart, but three. The main one distributes oxygenated blood throughout the body and the other two pump the blood back to each of the two gills to re-oxygenate it.

Their blood is blue.
They expel ink to defend themselves.

Octopus vulgaris

They are among the best camouflage artists in the animal world.
They can change not only the colour, but also the texture, opacity and reflectivity of their skin to adapt to their environment and ambush prey or throw off a predator. Sometimes they also use colour changes to communicate with other octopuses.
