2024 was a big year for Palma Aquarium, marked by learning, progress, and a renewed commitment to the conservation of our seas and environmental education. Over the course of the year, Palma Aquarium welcomed over 500,000 visitors, further consolidating its position as a benchmark for educational and responsible leisure experiences on Mallorca.
Unique and immersive experiences
Our primary goal is to create unforgettable experiences that enable visitors to connect with the oceans and understand the importance of their conservation. In 2024, more than 10,400 people joined our Backstage Tour, gaining an insight into our conservation projects, observing our efforts to protect marine ecosystems and learning about the rehabilitation of marine animals up close.
In addition, activities such as the Shark Vision Boat, Diving with Sharks, Snorkelling with Rays, and the 3D Cinema Aquadome offered visitors the chance to experience the underwater world at first hand. These experiences have been instrumental in raising awareness about the need to conserve our oceans.
Our Ocean Experts have played a key role in spreading our message, delivering over 1,900 educational and informational talks throughout the year. Moreover, 10 new activities, games, and educational snippets were introduced, enhancing interactive learning and encouraging curiosity about marine life.
Committed to education and the environment
One of the cornerstones of our mission is environmental education. In 2024, more than 8,000 pupils from over 130 schools participated in our educational activities, ranging from early years to high school. These educational institutions found a close ally in Palma Aquarium, which helped them to enrich their educational projects and create a lasting impact on thousands of pupils and their teachers.
This programme included more than 196 educational activities, centred on the conservation of the oceans and marine biodiversity. Visits that allow pupils to delve into the marine world and learn how to protect it, whilst also boosting their knowledge from an early age.
We also made a positive impact on 11,500 children who took part in activities targeting this age group, such as our camps, sleepovers with the sharks and birthday parties – experiences that combine fun and education.
Social responsibility has also been a priority for us this year. We welcomed 1,061 members of associations and social inclusion groups, offering them an educational and inclusive experience that further drove our mission to share knowledge and promote conservation with everyone, without exception. We also implemented training programmes for people at risk of social exclusion, providing learning opportunities in various areas, including hands-on experience with our animal carers.
Moreover, we signed seven social inclusion agreements to facilitate access to the job market and 17 students completed internships at Palma Aquarium, furthering our commitment to supporting the labour integration of people at risk of exclusion.
Sustainability and energy savings
Palma Aquarium is also committed to sustainability and energy savings. In 2024, we installed 735 solar panels that have enabled us to cut our energy consumption by 18%. We also installed five electrical charging points at our facilities in order to promote a more sustainable future.
Looking ahead to the future
2024 has seen significant progress in our mission of conservation and environmental education. Every step we take brings us closer to our goal of protecting the oceans and raising awareness of the importance of their conservation. Looking ahead to the future, we remain committed to research, marine wildlife rescue and education, working tirelessly to create a lasting impact on the health of our seas.
