Marins Majors

Promoting the social inclusion of older people

The Marins Majors social volunteer programme targets retired people aged 65 and over, encouraging them to take part in activities related to marine biodiversity conservation. Volunteers participate in the day-to-day tasks of our conservation projects, environmental awareness workshops and events.

This project provides older adults with a unique opportunity to remain engaged, socially active and improve their emotional and physical wellbeing.

A unique opportunity for the active participation of our older adults

In collaboration with “la Caixa” Foundation

Launched in 2023 by the Palma Aquarium Foundation and “la Caixa” Foundation, this project was created to find innovative ways to integrate older adults into society and provide them with meaningful opportunities for participation. According to Spain's National Institute of Statistics, by 2033, more than 12.3 million people in Spain will be over the age of 65, accounting for 25.2% of the total population.

Seven volunteers are currently benefitting from this magnificent initiative.

In mid-April 2024, the Palma Aquarium Foundation and “la Caixa” Foundation renewed their commitment to social inclusion and marine conservation by relaunching the Marins Majors volunteer project.

The agreement renewal was signed by Debora Morrison and Joan Rams, Director and President of the Palma Aquarium Foundation respectively, as well as by Rosa Adriana Martínez and Antonio Company, Manager and Director of Caixa Bank's Mallorca I Business Centre.
